Want to be a Lazy Environmentalist? June 30, 2009

I just stumbled on The Lazy Environmentalist from our netflix. Its a show about easy ways (and affordable) to change your lifestyle to be a little more green. It airs on the sundance channel and you can get back series on netflix, and probably elsewhere.

There are many ways to slightly adjust your lifestyle and make a difference by not being wasteful of water etc, or just being aware of what chemicals you ingest (or your pets like they discuss in one episode). It is wonderful to be able to make small changes and not have to spend a lot of time adjusting or learning how to adapt to a new system, and they give examples in this show.

Get Involved Locally! Serve your Country in your free time… June 29, 2009

Serve your country in your free time… feel better about yourself…. and MAKE a DIFFERENCE.  IT’s FREE!!!

www.serve.gov

There is a new website that has a fully comprehensive and searchable list of volunteer opportunities by community. So, if you are interested in helping your local community and have extra time to do it- I highly recommend that you check out this link and peruse the possibilities. I searched my area, Houston, TX and got results from Big-Brother Big-Sister (a one year commitment to volunteer in a kids life ages 6-15 I believe) to one hour a week/month to help maintain a community garden that provides fresh produce to an impoverished neighborhood (VERY cool to me since I just started my first back-yard urban garden this year).

I challenge you– just see what’s here, take 5 minutes and  explore the possibilities. There are people waiting for your help now :)

Toshimingo State Park - looking for climbing routes

Toshimingo State Park - looking for climbing routes

Well, I am very excited to begin my journey into the matrix and share my research and insights with anyone interested in climbing, outdoors sports, camping, community building, and anything else that I come across that can be useful for people interested in living full lives outside work. (even in Houston, TX when it’s 104 degrees out!).
